UFM - Education - Lessons from the past (648 x 656).png

This immersive learning session will help your pupils to gain an insight into the everyday life of a child in the early 1900s. Starting off in an original schoolhouse building, you will experience a Victorian school lesson in authentic surroundings, and be able to compare and contrast learning and play in the past to what happens in schools today.

After their lesson, there’s a chance for the class to visit another of our authentic buildings at the Ulster Folk Museum and take part in an investigation of real museum objects typically found in the home. A member of our Education team will lead your class in an active and hands-on exploration of the objects, and help them reflect on how the daily routines of children have changed over time. We will also pose questions that will help your pupils consider the sustainability of the materials and methods that were used in the home in the past, compared to what we use today.
