Become history investigators at the Ulster Folk Museum in this hands-on learning session designed to help children get to grips with what it was like to live in a rural farmhouse. By working together in groups and trying out some typical domestic duties, your pupils will experience first-hand some of the daily chores children living in rural communities would have carried out in the home. It’s not all housework though, as there are plenty of jobs to be done in the farmyard too, so bring your wellies and prepare to get your hands dirty! We’ll reflect on the connection between farm life and the changing seasons and explore themes relating to food and farming. At the end of the session, we’ll find out who wants to stay in the past and who would prefer to return to the mod cons of the present!
