Country Skills

Two horses pulling a plough through the fields at Ulster Folk Museum
Date
Saturday 25th March

Time: 11:00 - 16:00

Celebrating and preserving everyday skills, customs and traditions passed down over many generations in Ulster is what we do at the Ulster Folk Museum. As part of this, we have a working farm on our rural site where heritage country skills are practiced and demonstrated daily.

On 25th March we'll be hosting Country Skills and Horse Ploughing Day to honour these traditional skills and demonstrate how they're still relevant today.

Watch how horseshoes are made at Lisrace Forge and see shoeing in action with farriers applying horseshoes to horses using traditional methods. Our working sheep dogs will be out in the fields where demonstrations of heritage ploughing techniques will also be going on. You'll also be able to try your hand at rope making with straw and say hello to all of our farm animals.
